Liverpool City Council plan to sell half of its shares in John Lennon Airport.
The local authority holds 20 per cent equity in the Speke terminal but is aiming to half its original £12 million investment in efforts to generate fresh funds.
Cabinet documents obtained by the Liverpool Echo claim that the move is part of council chief Joe Anderson’s Invest to Earn strategy to combat government cuts.
It is understood that the council hopes to generate around £10m from the sales.
Shares in the airport are predominantly held by the Peel group Mayor Anderson is also listed on Companies House as a director of JLA’s holding company.
The company posted a £1.9m loss for the year ending March 2018 and recorded a £2.5m shortfall in the previous business year but is still operating comfortably.
