Police are investigating after a Liverpool fan threw a local man into a fountain in one of Barcelona’s main squares.
Video footage circulating on social media showed a local street seller being launched into the water at Placa Reial while others watched on laughing.
Numerous supporters have already called on Anfield officials to identify and ban the individual, who was wearing a navy blue fleece, during Tuesday’s incident.
Merseyside Police are yet to comment but Liverpool confirmed on Wednesday that it was working with the force to identify the perpetrators involved.
“Liverpool Football Club is working with Merseyside Police and the authorities in Spain, who are endeavouring to identify those involved in the incident,” read a club statement.
“Such behaviour is clearly totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“It would be inappropriate to comment further while the situation is ongoing other than to confirm the club will follow due process in any and all cases of this nature.”
Hundreds of Reds fans had descended on the square close to tourist hotspot La Rambla on the eve of their side’s Champions League semi-final at the Nou Camp.
Spanish police later dispersed the travelling support from the square and cordoned it off with riot vans to prevent any further entry to it.
Fans subsequently move to La Rambla, where they were again made to move on by the local Guardia Civil.
Liverpool CEO Peter Moore appealed to supporters heading to the Barcelona tie Catalonia to behave ‘with grace and humilty’ during their time in the city.
“We proudly sing that we’ve conquered all of Europe,” he wrote on Twitter.
“But let’s treat this beautiful city with the respect that it deserves, and act in a manner that is befitting of LFC.
“By all means have a good time, but we are Liverpool, and as such, let’s visit here with grace and humility.”
