A man has been stabbed to death in broad daylight on a Liverpool street.
Police were called to Bentley Road in Toxteth at around 1.20pm on Thursday following reports that a man in his 20s had been stabbed in the neck.
Emergency services attended the scene and the man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A cordon remains in place while forensic, house-to-house and CCTV enquiries continue.
Officers will remain in the area to provide reassurance to the community and to gather information.
Enquiries are ongoing to formally identify the victim and inform his next of kin.
Detective Inspector Phil Mahon said: “We’re currently in the very early stages of the investigation however it is vital that anyone with information that could assist our enquiries gets in touch.
“This is an appalling crime which has occurred in a busy residential area in broad daylight. A young man has tragically lost his life and we will do our utmost to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
“You may have witnessed the incident, suspicious behaviour in the area or someone making off from the scene and any information, no matter how small, may prove vital to our investigation.”
