Three rescued from Liverpool city centre fire

Three people had to be rescued from a fire in a flat in Liverpool city centre.

Emergency services were called to Concert Square in the early hours of Friday morning after the blaze broke out near to the popular city centre nightspot.

Four fire engines attended the scene with the aerial appliance and support pump.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two people were rescued from a second-floor balcony while a third person was discovered inside the property.

All three have been taken to hospital as a precaution while fire crews remain at the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be held later.
