Two killed in Old Swan house fire

A house fire in Old Swan has killed two pensioners.

An initial investigation has indicated that the fire started in the Living Room of the property.

Fire services were called to the property at around 9pm on Wednesday after neighbours were alerted by a fire alarm and smoke billowing from a bedroom window.

Crews forced entry in to the home and found the elderly couple unconscious on the ground floor of the property.

The couple were given CPR until ambulance crews arrived. Fire crews were still at the property when Merseyside Police confirmed that the pair had died.

They were named locally as Jim Dodd, 87, and his wife Mari, 85.

Two eight month old babies were taken to Alder Hey childrens’ hospital to be assessed for smoke inhalation as a precaution.

The initial investigation has shown that the fire was accidentally and was not suspicious.
