An investigation has been launched into the death of a prisoner at HMP Liverpool.
Ian Galtress was discovered in the Hornby Road jail on Sunday, prompting an inquiry by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO).
The 47-year-old from Birkenhead is the second prisoner to die at Walton in the space of three weeks following the discovery of fellow inmate Paul Jones.
A cause of death for the 36-year-old, who was on remand, is yet to be confirmed.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “HMP Liverpool prisoner Ian Galtress (30/06/1971) died in prison on 14 October 2018.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
“As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”
