Taxi driver jailed for ‘depraved’ sexual assaults

A taxi driver has been jailed for seven years after sexually assaulting two women.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Felix Chan had first attacked a 19-year-old after picking up three female students in the city centre last year.

The private hire driver demanded £70 from the victim when she was sck in his taxi before groping her upon arriving at her shared accommodation.

Chan was arrested the following day after the woman took photos of his car and called police amid fears for her friend who was still sat in the vehicle.

Although the father-of-two was not initially charged over the incident, he struck again with another assault earlier this year on a 20-year-old woman.

The student had travelled back to Warrington after becoming separated from a group of friends while on a night out in Liverpool.

WhatsApp messages sent by the victim told friends that Chan had turned off her GPS for 47 minutes while he groped her.

A friend called the woman before the 35-year-old took the phone and said “Don’t worry I will take care of her”.

Footage of the victim being sexualy assaulted was recorded by Chan on his mobile phone when she had fallen asleep in the taxi.

Midway through being assaulted, Deborah Gould, prosecuting, claimed the woman was ‘too terrified to say or do anything and pretended to be asleep.’

Before eventually being taken taken home, Chan stopped at a nearby bus stop where the victim was molested and had her genitalia filmed.

The girl’s parents phoned police, who identified the ex-Hunts Cross resident from CCTV at the two cash machines he had taken her when demanding money.

In court, he admitted three counts of sexual assault and one of assault by penetration.

Sentencing Chan to seven years behind bars, Judge Steven Everett described his behaviour towards the woman as ‘very depressing and very unpleasant’.

He added: “Two people have had their lives totally turned upside down by your disgusting behaviour.”

Chan was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order which prevents him working as a taxi driver.
