Second firm cancels Champions League flights

More Liverpool fans have been left stranded by fresh flight cancellations.

A second travel company that had pledged to take Reds supporters to Saturday’s Champions League final have been forced to withdraw the service.

Myriad Travel claimed on Friday that one of their flights to Kiev had been cancelled as the chartered plane ‘does not have the correct license to fly’.

Although the Liverpool-based firm are still set to go ahead, it is the second round of cancellations to affect fans travelling to the Ukrainian capital.

Tour operator Worldchoice Sports cancelled three flights to Kiev, affecting up to 1,000 supporters, amid claims they had failed to secure a landing spot.

A spokesman for Air Partner Ltd, who were chartering the Myriad flight, said “On Thursday morning, we offered a number of alternative aircraft solutions to the travel agent that contracted us, but they declined them, and we fully refunded the travel agent.”

Liverpool have offered to refund the mach tickets of any supporters affected by the SVB116 flight cancellation.

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson sought to find a solution to the Worldchoice Sports debacle but conceded defeat in his efforts on Friday afternoon.

“Hugely disappointed that our efforts to sort #LFC fan flights has not worked @Vitaliy-Klychko & airport directors did all possible with landing slots and planes but not able to get over the line,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Frustrated by utter shambles faced by loyal fans. The company has said it can’t resolve it, we have to respect that. Gutted we got so close.”
