Man, 20, killed in Liverpool city centre stabbing

A man has died after an early-morning stabbing in Liverpool city centre.

Police and paramedics were called to Hanover Street around 4am following reports that a 20-year-old had received injuries consistent with a knife wound.

He was taken to hospital but later died as a result of his injuries.

Forensic officers have closed the scene around Hanover Street and Wood Street as part of the investigation. Witness and CCTV enquiries are also being made.

Detective Superintendent Lee Turner said: “Knife crime will not be tolerated in Merseyside and those caught carrying a weapon will be brought to justice.

“Carrying or using any dangerous weapon does not offer protection and in fact often puts you and those around you at more risk. These weapons can have severe consequences and we will not stand for this criminal behaviour.”

Anyone who witnessed what happened is urged to call 101, @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 or contact Merseyside Police’s social media desk @MerPolCC as a matter of urgency.
