Merseyside Police are appealing for witnesses following a report a man was stabbed in Bootle last night.
A report was received around 5.30pm that a 23-year-old man had been stabbed in the right buttock on Shelley Street.
It is believed a group of males had an altercation with the victim on Spencer Street before one stabbed him. The offenders then made off from the scene.
The victim has been taken to hospital for treatment, his injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
Forensic examination of the scene is taking place, witnesses are being spoken to and CCTV opportunities are being explored.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Mahon said: “This was a shocking attack in the early evening in a residential area where people were going about their business. I want to make it absolutely clear that Merseyside Police will not tolerate the use of knives as weapons on our streets, and the force is determined to eradicate knife crime. Alongside our partners, we will continue to educate our young people, enforce and act on any information given to us, to make the streets safer.
“As a force we are committed to tackling the problem of knife crime and identifying those involved so they can be put before the courts.
“I appeal to anyone who has any information in relation to this incident to contact police so we can find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
