Italy have granted citizenship to Alfie Evans in the row over his life.
The move came after the European Court of Human Rights rejected the latest appeal by the terminally ill toddler’s parents Tom Evans and Kate James.
Doctors at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where Alfie is being treated for a rare brain disease, have been granted the right to turn off his life support.
Police were forced to block the entrance to the West Derby site on Monday as a handful of protestors attempted to storm the hospital’s main entrance.
Around 200 people had converged outside Alder Hey in support of the 23-month-old.
