Plans for £50m Liverpool cruise terminal approved

Liverpool City Council have approved plans that will see a new £50 million cruise terminal built on the waterfront.

The Princes Jetty on Princes Parade is set to be demolished in order to make way for the new cruise terminal that will be built on a suspended deck on the River Mersey.

The new terminal will be big enough to accomodate the world’s largest super liners

Angie Redhead, head of the City’s Assets, said it could “create thousands of new jobs” and attract “thousands more visitors”.

In 2017, the current terminal saw 60 vessels dock which brought around 120,000 people to the city.

The new cruise terminal will see improved facilities including passport control, a lounge, cafe, toilets, taxi waiting area and vehicle pick points.

In addition to the £50m that has been made available to fund the project, the council has set aside a further £32M that would be used to upgrade  the A564 and build a new £20M link road to extend Leeds Street which will help with the passenger access to the terminal.

Following the approval of outline planning permission, the final design will be subject to further assessment before final approval.
