The European Courts of Human Rights is set to consider Alfie Evans’s case.
A High Court ruling earlier this month had given doctors at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital permission to turn off the Liverpool toddler’s life support system.
However Alfie’s parents Tom Evans and Kate James have taken the battle over their son’s life to the ECHR in efforts to halt the withdrawal of treatment.
“The court has received a request for an interim measure to stay the withdrawal of Alfie Evans’s treatment,” said an ECHR spokesman.
“The court is still considering that request.”
Alfie’s family want to take him to a hospital in Rome for treatment which they believe will allow him to survive for an ‘undefined period’.
