Woman killed in rush hour Strand crash

A 49-year-old woman who was hit by a car on The Strand yesterday has died in hospital.

Police were originally called to The Strand, near the Cunard Building, at around 5.35pm yesterday evening to reports that a female pedestrian had been hit by a Ford Mondeo.

The incident is understood to have taken place at the pedestrian crossing near the Cunard Building. Two passing doctors went to the aid of the woman however she later died in hospital of her injuries.

A man in his 50’s who was driving the Ford Mondeo is assisting police with their enquiries.

Police have appealed for information or anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Sergeant Phil Mitchell: “We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident, whether they are pedestrians or road users.

“I would also urge anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving along the Strand around 5.35pm to come forward as it may be vital in our investigation.”
