Four arrested in Wavertree guns and drugs raid

Merseyside Police arrested four people after a shotgun and a large quantity of drugs during a warrant in Wavertree yesterday.

At around 7.20pm, the warrant was executed at a property on Lemon Close and a search undertaken of the house and a white Fiat Punto on the driveway.

A sawn-off shotgun was recovered from the car for forensic examination, and drugs found in the house.

A quantity of drugs, believed to be heroin, amphetamines and diazepam, were also seized and taken for testing and the property is being examined by crime scene investigators.

Two men aged 24 and 60, and two women aged 33 and 52 – all from Wavertree – were arrested on suspicion of possession of a Section 1 firearm, and on suspicion of possession with intent to supply to supply Class A, B and C drugs. They have been taken into police custody to be interviewed.

Detective Chief Inspector John Webster said: “We know the harm that firearms and drugs can cause on our streets and the recovery of this handgun and a significant quantity of drugs represents another significant step in reducing the harm and misery they can bring to our communities.

“Removing the blight of guns from our communities is a priority for the whole of the force and the fact we have prevented drugs from reaching the streets, where they fuel so much other crime, is extremely satisfying.

“Criminals are making considerable money through the sale of drugs, made on the back of the misery drugs bring to our communities. Yesterday’s action shows the force will do all it can to take action against those who line their pockets to the detriment of our society.”
