Merseyside Police is appealing for the public to be cautious after a large quantity of prescription medication was stolen from a pharmacy in Norris Green.
Officers were called to Rowlands Pharmacy, Townsend Avenue, at around 8.30am yesterday, following a report that the shop had been burgled.
Patrols attended and established that a number of prescription items had been stolen, including:
Over 100 prescriptions for controlled drugs.
20 x boxes of Diazepam containing 28 tablets in each box – various strengths of 2.5mg to 10mg.

11 x boxes of Mirtazapine containing 28 in each box – various strengths of 15, 30 and 45 mgs.
16 x boxes of Gabapentin containing 100 in each box – various strengths of 100, 300, 450, and 600 mgs.

6 x boxes of Codeine Phosphate containing 28 tablets in each box – 20mg.
8 x boxes of Chlorpromazine containing 28 tablets in each box – various strengths of 25 and 50 mgs.
Numerous amounts of out of date medication.
The shop is now being examined for forensic opportunities and CCTV from the area is being located and reviewed.
An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident is continuing.
Detective Inspector Judith Blease said: “Taking any medication which hasn’t been properly prescribed for you by a doctor can be dangerous and can even prove fatal.
“Furthermore, many of the items which were stolen during the incident had passed their use by dates and expired, heightening those dangers still further.
“If anyone finds any of the medication, they should hand it in immediately to any pharmacy or police station.
“I would also appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area overnight, or has any information which could help us with our enquiries, to come forward and speak to us.”
