Speke house targeted in arson attack

Police are appealing for witnesses after a Speke house was targeted in an arson attack.

Emergency services were called to Critchley Road at 10.45pm on Saturday, following reports the front door and kitchen window of the property had been set alight.

The fire had already been extinguished before Mersey Fire and Rescue Service arrived and there was minimal damage caused to the door. Nobody was injured.

Merseyside Police believe the incident was a targeted attack but also that the offender was targeting a previous occupier of the house.

An investigation is underway and house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out.

Detective Inspector Judith Blease said: “I would appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity of Critchley Road last night who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to get in touch.

“Thankfully the fire was extinguished quickly and nobody was injured but this could have had very serious consequences.

“The current occupier of the house has only been there for a short time and while we believe that the attack was targeted we believe it was aimed at a previous occupant.”
