Nine still in custody over Concert Square brawl

Nine people arrested in connection with a mass brawl in concert square are still being questioned by detectives.

Merseyside Police confirmed the 26 German nationals arrested to prevent a breach of the peace yesterday (Thursday, 23 November) have been released.

A 23-year-old man from Walton and a 28-year-old man from Toxteth, five German nationals, a Spanish national and an Iranian national arrested on suspicion of violent disorder offences are being interviewed by detectives.

Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Rhodes said: “We are keen for anyone who was in the area at the time or has information on this incident to come forward and speak to police, or Crimestoppers.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have filmed the incident on a camera phone and ask that they send footage to concert.square.incident@merseyside.pnn.police.uk

“We will take strong action against anyone whose actions risk the good reputation our city centre has and bring people responsible for incidents such as this to justice.

“We will continue to work hard with our partners to ensure the city remains a safe place, with a good reputation which encourages people to continue to enjoy what the city has to offer. Our primary aim is to protect the public and ensure they have a night out in a safe environment.”

CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries are being carried out to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
