Six arrested in pre-planned Norris Green firearms operation

Merseyside Police have arrested six men and recovered two firearms, suspected drugs and cash following a pre-planned firearms operation in Norris Green on Wednesday 8 November.

At around 8pm, armed officers stopped a car on Lower House Lane. Following the search of the car, five men were detained. During a search of one of the men, two bullets were recovered. A 21-year-old man from Prescot was arrested on suspicion of possession of ammunition.

A search warrant was subsequently carried out at an address on Carsington Road, resulting in the recovery of two loaded firearms (a pistol and a revolver), shotgun cartridges, suspected drugs and paraphernalia. A 21-year-old man from Norris Green was arrested at the address on suspicion of possession of firearms, ammunition, and Class A and B drugs.

Both remain in custody for questioning by detectives.

The other occupants of the car, a 22-year old man from Warrington was issued with a warning for possession of cannabis; a 19-year-old man from Norris Green, a 23-year-old man from Croxteth, and a 22-year-old man from Bootle were issued with postal summons for suspected possession of cannabis.

Local Policing Superintendent Mark Wiggins said: “These seizures means two less firearms on our streets that could be used to cause fear, intimidation or harm. These weapons and the ammunition weapon would have been extremely dangerous in the wrong hands so we are delighted to have removed them from circulation, as well as a significant amount of drugs destined for the streets.

“We are relentless in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime and will continue to take action to protect our communities from those intent on using firearms on our streets.

“If anyone has any information about those involved in gun crime, or who knows where weapons are being stored, please contact us so that we can make our streets safer.”
