Merseyside Police detectives investigating the murder of Sam Cook are issuing CCTV images of two taxis, which they hope will lead to the drivers coming forward with information.
Detective Inspector Richie Jones said: “We believe that the drivers of these taxis may be able to provide information and I must emphasise that we have no suspicions of any involvement in the offence.
“The first image is of a taxi that picked up a group of men somewhere in the area around Fleet, Wood, Bold and Slater Street and dropped them off near to the Sugar Hut, Victoria Street 12:19am in the early hours of Sunday, 22 October where it picked up a further fare before leaving. This taxi is of distinctive appearance with a red advert wrapping, although the words are unclear at present and further enquiries are ongoing to identify this detail.
“The second image is of another taxi, which had its front nearside light out and dropped a group of men and women outside the Picture House on Scotland Road, opposite the Shell Garage, at 4.30am on Sunday, 22 October. This taxi travelled along St Anne Street into Wilbraham Street, where they were dropped at the junction before entering the Picture House.
“We want to speak to the drivers of both taxis, and anyone who recognises themselves as being in the taxis at these times and locations.”
Detective Chief Inspector Tivendale continued: “We still want to speak to everyone was in the basement of Empire and may have witnessed the altercation or the incident itself.”
