Man charged with murder following vicious knife attack

A man appeared in court yesterday, charged with attempted murder, following an attack with a meat cleaver.

At around 1.05pm on Thursday, a call was received from the ambulance service of a man in his 30s having been found injured in Hothfield Road.

Following enquiries, a 31-year-old man from Wallasey was arrested close by on suspicion of assault and has been taken to a police station for questioning by detectives. A meat cleaver was found nearby and has been recovered for forensic enquiries.

The victim was taken to hospital with non life-threatening lacerations to his head, back and arm, which will be assessed.

38-year-old Christoper Gunning appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court in Birkenhead yesterday morning where he was remanded in custody.
