New Brighton rape investigation closed

Merseyside Police today announced that they are no longer searching for an offender in relation to an alleged rape that took place in New Brighton.

Detectives originally started an investigation after a woman was raped as she took a morning walk in the popular New Brighton beauty spot.

The incident was reported to have taken place at around 7.30am on Bank Holiday Monday. The assault was alledged to have taken place at the North Wirral Coastal Park, commonly known as the ‘Gun site’, in an area of sand dunes/grass on the side of Green Lane.

Today a Merseyside Police spokesperson said “Having conducted a full and detailed investigation into this allegation, Merseyside Police can confirm we are no longer looking for an offender into this allegation of rape and the case is now closed.

“We would like thank the public for their support during the course of the investigation and reassure residents and visitors to the coastal area, that we will always thoroughly investigate all such allegations and will work with partners to ensure the safety of the community.”
