Liverpool is set to submit its final bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Judges spent two days in the city last month assessing an outline bid before Friday’s submission as it goes head-to-head with Birmingham for the games.
The Commonwealth Games’ Delivery Unit will pay a second visit Liverpool in late August as it assesses its suitability for the showpiece in five years’ time.
Everton’s new stadium at the Bramley Moore Dock is at the heart of the city’s plans to host the games with a temporary running track being installed.
Their current Goodison Park home will also be utilised for boxing while Liverpool’s Anfield stadium will host the opening ceremony and rugby sevens.
A floating pool along the waterfront will serve as the base for all swimming events while Mann Island is set to cater for various track and field events.
Manchester has also pledged its support with cycling and T20 cricket due to be held at its Velodrome and Old Trafford Cricket Ground venues.
A final decision on the outcome of England’s winning bid will be made in September following recommendations from the judges to the Government.
The official announcement of the 2022 games’ host is expected to arrive from the Commonwealth Games Federation by the end of 2017.
Victoria in Canada and Kuala Lumpur are both vying with England to host the games after the South African city of Durban was forced to withdraw as hosts.
