A third man has been sentenced to life for the murder of Mark Hillman.
John Paul Johns will serve a minimum of 25 years for his part in the father-of-three being shot dead in Lloyd Close, Everton on April 27 last year.
The 22-year-old from Kirkby was the final person jailed over Mr Hillman’s murder following the convictions of Brandon Bilsborough and Connor Hunt.
Bilsborough was handed a minimum 25 years behind bars for murder while Hunt received eight years after being found guilty of wounding in February this year.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Shaw said: “We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Hillman family for the loss of Mark, who was a son, brother and father himself.
“Mark’s death on the afternoon of 27 April 2016, followed an incident earlier that same day, when he was slashed to his face by Hunt and he retaliated by driving a car at Hunt and Bilsborough.
“At about 5.15pm, Hillman arrived in Lloyd Close where he thought he was about to make a drug deal, and he was fatally shot twice.
“The convictions of these three men are a result of a determined investigation to bring Mark’s killer to justice.
“Ultimately we know that nothing can bring Mark back, but we hope the verdicts and today’s sentencing gives his family some sense of justice.
“We are continually asking communities for information about drug dealing and carry out warrants and arrests day in day out, to tackle the issue.
“The death of Mark Hillman highlights why we do this, as well as the danger drugs bring to our communities.
“Drugs are not harmless and amongst criminal groups are a commodity, that they are willing to cause harm, injury and even death for.
“As a force we want to rid the streets of this blight and we continue to work with partners to tackle the issue, but we cannot do this without the help of public.
“Gun, gang and drug crime has very clear, serious and often tragic consequences. We continue to do everything in our power to continue to take guns off the streets and out of the hands of criminals.
“If you have any information about drug, gang or gun crime in your area, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or the dedicated gun crime hotline on 0800 230 0600. We will act on any information we receive.”
