Liverpool’s Everyman theatre will feature on a new set of Royal Mail stamps.
The city centre venue forms part of a special set of stamps that celebrate 10 buildings that represent the renaissance of contemporary architecture in the UK.
Redesigned by architects Haworth Tomkins, the new-look Everyman was awarded the RIBA Stirling Prize – the highest accolade in its field – in 2014.
At street level 105 life-size portraits of Liverpool residents by local photographer Dan Kenyon were etched onto movable aluminium sunshades.
Also included in the set of distinctively shaped buildings are Tate Modern, London Aquatics Centre, the Eden Project and the National Assembly of Wales.
Gemma Bodinetz, artistic director at Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse Theatres, said: “We are hugely honoured to see our beloved Everyman celebrated in this way.
“Through the design and construction process our sights were firmly fixed on creating the perfect theatre for our audiences and artists.

“It never occurred to us that one day it would be winning major architectural awards let alone being licked and stuck on envelopes!
“Everyone at the Everyman is completely thrilled as I’m sure are all the local people represented on the shutters. It’s a very special thing.”
Deborah Aydon, executive director at Everyman & Playhouse, added: “The Everyman was a ten-year labour of love for us all and it’s absolutely thrilling to have it feature on a Royal Mail stamp.
“Liverpool has always been at the heart of what we do and architects Haworth Tompkins succeeded in making sure our fantastic theatre both welcomes and celebrates all members of our community.
“It’s wonderful that the people of Liverpool depicted on the building are being celebrated in this unique way.”
The new stamps are available from Post Offices across the UK and at royalmail.com/landmarkbuildings
