A man in his 40s has been shot outside a house in Speke.
Paramedics and armed police discovered the victim at the scene in Eastern Avenue on Wednesday evening after receiving reports at around 9.50pm.
The man was found with a wound to his thigh and has been taken to hospital.
House-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are underway at the scene and officers will be in the area to talk and offer reassurance to the community.
Motorists are advised that Eastern Avenue is currently closed from the junction of Central Avenue to Alderwood Avenue.
Chief Inspector Andy Rankine said: “These are the very early stages of our investigation and our number one priority is to establish exactly what happened.
“If anyone was in the vicinity of Eastern Avenue from around 9.30pm and saw anyone acting suspiciously, witnessed the incident itself or anyone making off at speed in any vehicles, call us immediately.
“What you may think is a small detail could be key to our investigation.
“Any shooting is one too many and the last week has seen several separate incidents, which are all being thoroughly investigated by our dedicated officers.
“We will continue to be relentless in pursuing those involved, all with your help. Information from those communities affected is vital in taking those people involved and their weapons off our streets.
