Hospital bosses in Liverpool have urged WHSmith to stop selling The Sun on its premises.
The reviled newspaper is still available at the city’s Royal hospital despite numerous local newsagents and supermarkets agreeing to not to stock it.
But WHSmith have declined the request, following numerous complaints by the public, to follow suit from healthcare chiefs not to stock the Sun.
A Royal spokesperson confirmed that other retailers in the hospital’s grounds had agreed to withdraw the paper from sale while the high-street retailer did not.
“As a business we aim to offer all of our customers choice,” a WHSmith spokeswoman responded.

“We sell over 10,000 different newspapers and magazines and customers often have different views about the products we sell.
“Our policy ensures customers can choose what they wish to purchase rather than us seeking to act as a censor.”
Journalists from the paper, which smeared Liverpool fans in the aftermath of Hillsborough, also saw their access to Anfield and Melwood revoked last month.
