Four-year-old struck in St Helens hit-and-run dies

A four-year-old girl that was injured in a hit-and-run in St Helens has died.

Violet Grace Youens passed away late on Saturday night little more than 24 hours after she had been involved in a road collision on Prescot Road.

Her grandmother Angela French, 55, was also struck by a stolen black Ford Fiesta car and remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Violet’s family donated her pancreas and both kidneys in the wake of her death.

The family said that they were ‘devastated by the loss of their beautiful daughter but they wanted the organ donations to benefit other children and give them a chance to lead long and happy lives’.

An investigation into the incident remains underway and a number of lines of enquiry are being pursued by officers.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information which could assist with the investigation to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 6041 or the Crimestoppers line anonymously on 0800 555 111.
