Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a two-year-old child in Birkenhead.
Emergency services were called to Woodville Road at around 2.30pm on Wednesday to discover the boy was unresponsive and carried out CPR.
He was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short while later.
The force has implemented the protocols for a sudden unexpected death in infancy and a detailed examination of the circumstances is being carried out.
A 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, both from Birkenhead, have been arrested on suspicion of murder while the woman was also arrested for child neglect.
They have both been taken to police stations on Merseyside where they continue to be questioned by detectives.
Two other children who lived at the property, aged two and three, have been medically assessed and are in the care of Wirral Council’s Children’s Services.
Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have information which could help them with their inquiries to contact them on 0151 777 2263, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
