An Everton FC season ticket holder has been handed a football banning order following skirmishes at a Merseyside derby.
Andrew Fowler was hit with the sanction as part of a police probe into clashes between supporters of the Blues and Liverpool at Goodison Park last year.
Missiles and smoke canisters were thrown during the game on December 19, which Liverpool won 1-0 courtesy of a Sadio Mane goal in stoppage time.
Fowler, from Frodsham, appeared at Bootle’s Community Justice Centre last Friday and pleaded guilty to throwing an item at a designated sporting event.
In addition to the three-year suspension from all UK football stadia, the 38-year-old was fined.
A second person, a juvenile, was given a Community Resolution Order in connection with the same event.
Chief Superintendent Chris Markey said: “We recognise that the majority of supporters are well behaved.
“However, there are a small minority who put themselves and others in danger by throwing these items.
“We will continue to work closely with all of our local clubs to make matches safe and enjoyable occasions but when incidents such as this occur we will work together to identify and bring to justice trouble makers, which is exactly what we have done in this case.”
