Free evening parking in Liverpool city centre is set to end later this year.
Councillors have taken the unpopular move to scrap the existing measures which allow motorists to leave their cars at street level without charge from 6pm daily.
The proposal was first floated by the local authority in November 2022 in attempts to ‘standardise’ parking in the heart of the city after a review of the situation in 2018.
Restrictions to on-street parking currently run from 8am to 6pm but the council are now set to extend that time frame to cover the period between 7am and 11pm.
Changes to the new regulations could be enforced as early as June despite public consultation returning an overwhelming majority of 90% in opposition to the plans.
