Pensioner, 89, dies after being hit by taxi

An elderly pensioner has died after being hit by a taxi in Gateacre.

Local resident Andrew Oakden passed away in hospital following the collision on Grange Lane near the junction with Gateacre Brow late on Saturday night.

The 89-year-old suffered multiple injuries in the collision with the Ford C Max car close to the Black Bull pub in the area. His next of kin have been informed.

A 42-year-old driver of the car was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed limit for a specified drug, driving while unfit through drugs and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He has since been released pending a disposal decision.

Officers are still appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Gateacre Brow or the location of the collision at the time of the incident to get in touch.
