A man has been arrested after a Wirral home was shot at last weekend.
Police were called to a house in Paignton Road, Wallasey at 9.30pm on Sunday and discovered damage to the frame of the front door consistent with gun shots.
A 35-year-old woman living at the house was not hit but suffered minor grazing from splintering wood while the offender left the scene on a pedal cycle.
Detectives have since detained a 29-year-old man from Wallasey on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
He has been taken into custody to be interviewed.
Wirral Local Policing Commander, Superintendent Ian Hassall said: “Firearms discharges in Wirral are extremely rare and this is a highly unusual incident.
“We are taking it very seriously indeed and patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the local community.
“Thankfully the victim’s injuries are extremely minor and she declined treatment offered to her by paramedics. However she is understandably shaken and upset and we are providing all the necessary support.
“Gun crime has no place on the streets of Merseyside and we will continue to do all we can to rid it from our communities.
“We need the public’s help to do this so please come forward, anonymously if need be, if you can tell us anything that could help us bring offenders to justice.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
