Protesters will voice their opposition to plans by Redrow to build homes next to Calderstones Park ahead of a ruling by council bosses on the scheme.
Liverpool City Council’s planning committee will visit the proposed site before deciding on whether to give the go-ahead to the controversial project tomorrow.
A number of charities and community initiatives, including Beechley Riding Stables and Calderkids playground, would be rehoused as part of the plans.
But local charity The Friends of Harthill and Calderstones Park will stage two demonstrations, first at Harthill Road and later outside the city’s Town Hall.
The group have received the backing of Liverpool’s Liberal Democrat and Green parties in disputing that the land earmarked remains part of Calderstones Park.
Protests are set to take place at 9.45am on Harthill Road on February 14 with the demo outside the Town Hall scheduled for an hour later at 10.45am.
Calderstones School are also opposing the 51-house development over concerns about increased traffic and the impact construction work will have on students undertaking exams.
However council leader Joe Anderson insists the issue has been politicised by Labour’s rivals and dismissed claims that the land is part of Calderstones Park.
“The land is not in the park. The Calderkids building is falling down and they need new facilities so that is what we are doing,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“Beechley stables as well, we are moving them to a good facility – and the railway are happy too.
“Everyone is happy except the Liberal Democrats and the Greens who want to turn this into a political issue.”
In December, council bosses rejected separate plans by Redrow to build 160 houses on Woolton Road, previously part of the former Allerton Priory estate.
