A man is in a serious condition after being stabbed three times in Anfield.
Emergency services were called to Ince Avenue at around 6.50pm on Wednesday to reports the 22-year-old victim was outside a property suffering from knife wounds.
He was taken to hospital, where his condition is described as serious but stable, with two puncture wounds under his arm and a superficial puncture wound to his abdomen.
The house has been cordoned off to allow crime scene investigators to carry out forensic enquiries and detectives have been carrying out house to house enquiries in the street.
Detective Inspector Steve Christian said: “The investigation is in its early stages and we are still trying to piece together exactly what happened but officers are treating it as a targeted attack.
“The victim has been taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.
“We have spoken to some witnesses but would appeal to any others who may have witnessed any part of the incident, which we believe happened on Ince Avenue, to come forward.
“I would urge anyone who has any information which could help us find those responsible to come forward as soon as possible.
“We will not let incidents like this cause fear in our communities.”
Anyone who has information which could help the police with their inquiries can contact police on 0151 777 4065, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
