A Liverpool fan who collapsed on his way to watch the Reds has thanked the emergency team and a passing doctor who rushed to save his life.
Tony Head, 70, from Telford, was walking to Anfield to watch Jurgen Klopp’s men take on Swansea City last month when he collapsed on Anfield Road.
An ambulance was called and as the emergency team treated him, Dr Peter Williams, a senior Emergency Department consultant from Aintree University Hospital and Liverpool fan himself, was passing by and rushed to aid them.
Dr Williams proceeded to aid in resuscitating Mr Head before he was swiftly taken to the Urgent Care and Trauma Centre at Aintree.
Dr Williams said: “When I saw the ambulance, I immediately offered to help and worked with the paramedics to treat Tony in the back of the ambulance.
“Tony was then rushed to a waiting trauma team at Aintree’s Emergency Department, just minutes away which helped save his life.
“I’m used to dealing with emergency cases in at the hospital but it was a 1 in 10,000 chance that I just happened to be walking past on my way to Anfield that day.
“The paramedics and the police did a great job and I’m just glad I was able to help. We have a first class team at Aintree, so I knew that Tony was in the best hands.”
“I can’t thank Dr Williams and the ambulance paramedics and police enough. I was very lucky he was passing and it seemed as though it was fate that it happened like that,” added Mr Head.
