Police are appealing for help in identifying the body of a man who was pulled from the River Mersey.
A member of the public spotted a body in the water close to the shore at Egremont Pier in Wallasey at around 1.50pm this afternoon.
All three emergency services attended the scene as the man was recovered from the water but subsequently pronounced dead.
Enquiries are underway to identify the man and to establish the full circumstances of his death. His death is currently being treated as unexplained.
The man is described as a white male, in his mid to late 50s, of slim build and wearing a black or dark blue ‘Barbour-style’ jacket, blue denim jeans and black Nike trainers.
He had grey/ginger hair and facial hair, partially balding, and was wearing a gold coloured metal watch with a brown leather strap.
In his possession was a brown wallet with a small amount of cash and an e-cigarette pipe.
