Man, 44, killed in Old Swan shooting

A man has been killed following a shooting in Old Swan this morning.

Police were called to Stanley Meat Market at around 8.15am following reports of a shooting in the area and provided first aid to the 44-year-old before ambulance staff arrived.

The victim, named as  was Thomas ‘Tommy’ Baker, was taken to hospital with injuries to his head and chest but was later pronounced dead.

Detectives have now opened an investigation into the Everton man’s murder.

House-to-house, CCTV, witness and forensic enquires will be carried out at the location and the scene is sealed off.

Detective Chief Inspector Beverley Hyland said: “I want to reassure our community that we will take action to find those responsible for bringing gun crime to our streets.

“I want anyone who saw anything or has information about this case to ring us. You can call our dedicated hotline or Crimestoppers anonymously.

“It is vital that we receive information from our communities to tackle gun crime and get these weapons off our streets.”
