Police Commissioner seeks help from Garston residents

Merseyside’s Police Commissioner is seeking the help of the community in the Garston area amid plans for a new community police station.

Jane Kennedy has proposed opening a new Community Police station in the Urban Village Hall on Bank’s Road.

The move would see Garston’s existing police station on Heald Street, which is the joint oldest building in the Merseyside Police estate, replaced by the new station.

It would also see the local neighbourhood policing team housed alongside several local businesses, a community coffee shop and a sports hall.

The proposal is part of a ten-year plan to modernise Merseyside Police’s stations and facilities that was first introduced back in 2014.

At the time the proposals were met with overwhelming support, with 92% of respondents agreeing to the plans that had been put forward.

Now, the Commissioner is seeking the help of Garston residents to discover if they believe the Urban Village Hall would be the best location for their new Community Police Station.

Shesaid: “I think Garston Urban Village Hall would be an outstanding location for a new Community Police Station.

It is well used and would enable the local policing team to be based alongside a number of other community businesses and a host of voluntary groups, serving local people.”

“Now I want to hear the views of local people and make sure that they agree.

“It is vital we put these Community Police Stations in the best place for the people they serve so I really want to know if we’ve got it right.”
