Steve Rotheram has pledged to reduce Fast Tag fees for the Mersey Tunnels to £1 if he is elected Liverpool’s Metro Mayor later this year.
The current MP for Walton announced the planned policy when launching his campaign ahead of the Liverpool City Region elections which take place in May.
Toll fees for Fast Tag users are currently £1.70 – 50p cheaper than those using general admission for the gateway between the Wirral and Liverpool.
Rotheram promised to cut fees on the Mersey Tunnels during his successful bid to be elected Labour’s representative for the Liverpool City Region elections last year.
He said: “I make this pledge for people from our City Region.
“I will reduce the cost of Fast Tag journeys for people from the City Region to just £1 and find easier ways to pay at the gate.”
