With a club like Liverpool, no one expected such an embarrassing beat down by Tottenham. It was a 4-1 win by the latter which sent Liverpool deeper in terms of the premier league standings. With their next matchup against Huddersfield Town at home, Liverpool can only hope for the better. Huddersfield Town is a no push over as they beat Man United 2-1 to take all the three points. Going back to the recent loss by the Spurs, there are a couple of things that went wrong at Wembley which contributed to the loss. They include:
Kane was ruthless
Kane had himself a field day at Wembley where he was on the score sheet twice. He was able to capitalize on the poor defense and unnecessary mistakes by Liverpool defenders. It would have it that Kane would take advantage of those mistakes and hammered Liverpool to send his club side to position 3 at the premier league table. Harry Kane is one of the best forwards in the premier league. His scoring ability is impressive and can score at weird angles. With a player like that and the kind of mistakes Liverpool did at the back, it is no surprise that Kane was ruthless.
Liverpool defense was too weak
The first two goals against Liverpool were in the first 13 minutes of the first half. Although Klopp’s men had everything under control in terms of possession and style of play, the mistakes at the defense cost them the two goals. To be precise, it was Dejan Lovren’s mistakes that put his team in that position where they were 3-1 down going into the second half. The poor defending by the inexperienced Lovren made everything difficult for Liverpool. It was difficult to come back bearing in mind that they were playing a strong team like the Spurs. Lack of confidence in the second half
Due to the thrashing they got during the first half, it was a done deal for them. Joel Matip would later make another mistake when he poorly cleared a header which would later find Kane and the result was another goal. With the 4-1 aggregate within the first 56 minutes of playtime, it was all over for Liverpool. Their morale to win the game was no longer there and what was left was to wait for the 90 minutes of playtime to elapse.
Poor overall performance
It was an overall poor performance for the team. There seem to be inadequate teamwork when it comes to Klopp’s men. Even though the manager insists on having a solid defense, they still have a long way to go if they are to shine at the remaining part of the league. However, anything is possible with Klopp in control.
