Online dates from hell

Online dating is becoming more and more popular, as the ease of swiping through an app is being seen by many to be more appealing than going out and actually talking to someone in a bar.

The older generations don’t understand, and many think it’s dangerous, but any stranger in a bar is just as likely to be a serial killer as the person you’re messaging on Tinder. At least you get a chance to analyse their grammar and spelling, before making an informed decision on whether they really are top management level at a solicitors or a wheeler and dealer who makes their money through dodgy means.

Online dating has some major benefits. You can ask them about their interests, their jobs, how much time they waste on computer games etc. before you even commit to meeting them. This lessens the likelihood of disappointment, such as when you find out after six dates, your attractive 30 something date with a ‘highflying career’ still lives at home with mum. Chances are, you will also find that ‘highflying career’ means smoking illegal substances while trying to take out a fleet of fighter jets on the Xbox.

But not all online dates end in disaster, with many leading to happy, long-term relationships, but nobody wants to read about those, do they? No, its much more fun to hear about some of the nightmare dates that convince people they will never swipe right again.

Online dating provides so many situations and funny stories that they really should be celebrated. Maybe a website should be dedicated to all of the crazy online dates people have gone through, although, there’s probably already an app for that. It would surely be full of horror stories, similar to these common scenarios:

The picture from ten years ago – A very frequent cause of online dating disappointment comes from people uploading images that may have been accurate ten years ago. When you’re expecting a Channing Tatum lookalike and along waddles Ian Beale with his best tracksuit on, you’re going to look for the nearest exit and run.

The awful laugh – Everything is going well, and you have lots in common. You’re onto the main meal and thinking this could end up being a serious thing; then someone makes a joke. Your dreamy, romantic bubble is suddenly burst when you hear an animal being tortured somewhere in the room. You look around to find the poor creature before realising everyone in the room is looking towards your date. Your date is the tortured hyena. Time for the bill.

Over exaggerated career – Now, it’s not to say that someone’s career should influence whether they are right for you. However, when someone tells you that they are ‘at a high level in the food industry’ and you find out that they stack the top shelves in Asda, that is just a blatant lie. You can’t trust someone like that. You’re not a snob; you just don’t like liars, right?

If you’re sick of these dating problems, then consider Car Dating from Swansway Group. It’s a much less risky option to swiping right.

Online dating is an unpredictable game of roulette, but it provides the best stories. Long live online dating!
