Musicals, and theatre, have come a very long way since Annie’s original appearance in 1977 and this production certainly delivers a brand new updated version aimed at a modern audience.
Annie is an incredibly popular piece of entertainment. Annie resonates with those who love their shows sentimental and Nikolai Foster’s rehashing of the classic will entertain many.

As is expected, there are tonnes of sunny tunes and plenty of vastly energetic child actors that work together to tug on the heart strings of the audience.
Whilst this performance may not be the most intellectually stimulating piece of theatre, it is lighthearted and stays close to the Annie plot that we know and love – and everyone needs a little lightheartedness now and again.

This new and updated production really brings a modern touch to the story. It almost has a hint of the Royal Shakespeare Companies Matilda in its intricately decorated set and sharp choreography. The set design and lighting are a visual treat.
The real defining point of this performance is the first-rate cast who deserve high praise. Alex Bourne’s Daddy Warbucks has incredible vocals. Whilst Lesley Joseph plays an excellent Miss Hannigan.
If you like your theatre sugary, sweet and sentimental, then this family-friendly performance is made for you.
