Star-studded tribute to Manuel Cuevas coming to Liverpool Philharmonic

A star-studded concert celebrating the life and work of Mexican fashion designer, Manuel Cuevas, comes to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, September 3.

Hailed as one of the great pop culture fashion designers of our time, Musical Threads will celebrate Manuel’s unmistakable stamp on the international music scene and showcase his creations in action with some of Nashville’s finest artists performing live for one night only in Liverpool. Manuel will also grace us with his inimitable presence during this special once-in-a-lifetime evening.

Presented as part of ¡VAMOS! Liverpool – a programme of events which launched in 2015 celebrating all things Mexican – Musical Threads will be hosted by master songwriter, and two-time Grammy award-winner, Jim Lauderdale, and include live sets from the incomparable Leigh Nash (formerly of Sixpence None the Richer, with international top five hits under her belt, including Kiss Me, and the Liverpool band, The La’s-penned, There She Goes); John Carter Cash (son of country music royalty – Johnny Cash and June Carter) and his partner Ana Cristina; country and rockabilly singer, Rosie Flores; plus our house band for the evening, all the way from Nashville, up and coming instrumental duo, Steelism, along with a selection of the cream of Tennessee session players.

The man, simply known as Manuel, has clothed some of the most iconic music stars of modern times – everyone from Elvis Presley, Gram Parsons, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Little Richard, Bob Dylan, to Neil Young, Dolly Parton, The Beatles, Aerosmith, Linda Rondstadt, Eurythmics, The Mavericks and Jack White to name but a few. Musical Threads will honour the man that gave them all a style of their very own.

Emma Foxall, director, Monkey Mind Productions, said:

“This is truly a never to miss, one off event – and includes artists that never regularly tour the UK – and who will never come together for something like this again. We have some real country music pedigree on the line-up, from Jim Lauderdale to John Carter Cash, who grew up around Manuel, as it was Manuel who famously put his father in black. We also have some incredibly talented session musicians too who are currently working with the biggest stars in Nashville.”

Musical Threads has been created and produced by Monkey Mind Productions, with support from Arts Council England and Visit Tennessee, and includes the first exhibition of Manuel’s work outside of the US, opening at Liverpool’s St George’s Hall on September 10. A special “audience with” evening with Manuel himself, hosted by fellow designer, Wayne Hemingway MBE, also takes place at the hall on September 10.
