Liverpool’s newest Museum set opening date

British Music Experience (BME) a large-scale national exhibition dedicated to the history of British popular music which is operated by TBL International, mind operators of the award winning Titanic Belfast today announced that the new Liverpool attraction will open on February 11 2017.

The permanent exhibition, located in Liverpool’s historic Cunard Building on the city’s Pier Head will show visitors how rock, pop, dance and other music genres have influenced British culture over the last seventy years.

Whilst the Cunard Building, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this weekend, became the global headquarters of the famous passenger shipping line, the BME operators will repurpose the original first class passenger lounge to house the exhibition.

The BME comprises a rich mix of more than 600 iconic artefacts and over 90 hours of audio-visual digital content, of which approximately 10% focuses on Liverpool bands and musicians including The Beatles and Cilla Black.

Taking visitors on a comprehensive trip through British music history,  the 16000 sq.ft. exhibition has eight interactive spaces which explore different British music genres, starting in 1945 with skiffle and rock and roll and progressing to Swinging London and Psychedelia of the 1960s, Glam rock, Punk and New Romanticism of the 70s and 80s, before heading to the 1990s, with the UK house music scene and the global phenomenon of Cool Britannia.

Liverpool was recently named the new UNESCO City of Music due to its musical heritage and music’s place in both the city’s culture and its economy.
