Pier Head to welcome exciting new summer attraction

Liverpool’s iconic Pier Head is set for a further boost in tourist figures after it was announced that the site will play host to an exciting new summer attraction.

The Liverpool Village project is a celebration of independent brands and adds yet another attraction for visitors to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Officially opening on Thursday 30th June, The Liverpool Village has been billed as the UK’s first summer- long festival and will be home to an eclectic mix of live music, try street animation and food and drink outlets.

Family-friendly activities including crazy golf, Segway rides and assault courses will also be included as part of the programme, as organisers look to attract a wide-ranging demographic to the riverside location.

Martin O’Shea, Managing Director of the Liverpool Village, said: “To be able to bring a new three-month festival attraction to the Pier Head is hugely exciting.  We are programming our most iconic space for the entire summer to mid-September and want to engage and listen to everyone to make sure it keeps evolving.

“As our start point we are bringing a wide range of modern family-focused activities, street food and juice bars, live musicians and memorabilia, festival wear and souvenir retailers among other attractions.

“The build on the new structure, which will house one of two concepts to rival the coolest Mediterranean-style beach bars, is already underway.  There will be something for everyone at the Liverpool Village.

“This is Liverpool’s South Bank, its Rastro and its Ramblas all wrapped in to one, on what was recently voted as Europe’s finest waterfront.  It will now be animated throughout the summer and we’re looking forward to welcoming the world to the Pier Head and entertaining them all the way.”

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson also hailed the new addition to the city’s historic waterfront.

He said: “From the ACC Liverpool, through Albert Dock and along to the three Graces, Liverpool’s waterfront is a must-see destination for tourists and residents alike.

“The Liverpool Village will bring a new twist to this space and create animation and excitement to one of the city’s most loved locations.

“The opening of The Jam exhibition in the Cunard Building on the July 1 is another real coup for the city, and a sign that this summer the waterfront is going to be more vibrant than ever.”
