Pirate fever takes over Albert Dock

Pirate fever took over Liverpool as the Pirate Festival came to the Albert Dock.

The annual festival offered two days of free family fun for anyone of any age as a whole host of events and activities ensured boredom wasn’t an option.

Children dressed in pirate, mermaid and sea creature costumes as well as adults who also enjoyed playing dress up for the two-day event.

Local businesses joined in the fun too with souvenir shops selling pirate costume goodies and staff members even wearing pirate gear for the day.

Crowds experienced some spectacular live-action shows and admired the regalia of the entertainers to bring the pirates only usually seen in movies to life.

Pirate fans travelled far and wide for the festival, some being regular attendees, and there was plenty for them to get involved in.

A jam-packed line up included The Mermaid and Pirates Parade, which gave those in costumes chance to show off their outfits to the beat of loud drums.

Those who prefer quieter entertainment had a chance to sit down and listen to the story of The Mermaid of the Black Rock and an opportunity for face painting.

The sunshine helped keep spirits up, as did the live music.

A lively ambience was also created by the speakers situated on the docks which blasted out pirate tunes.

The pirate festival was a big hit with the public with crowds beginning to gather.
