The Spooky Men’s Chorale are returning to Liverpool

Liverpool will welcome back The Spooky Men’s Chorale later this month.

Australia’s outlandish and wonderful black-clad choristers are returning to the city’s Philharmoic on July 13 as part of their seventh UK tour.

After the success of six nationwide tours and a sold-out stint in their native New South Wales, the ensemble are making a long-awaited return to England.

With 17 years and five records under their belt, it’ll be a thrilling night with one of Australia’s most-beloved acts.

Describing themselves as “equal parts monk, Visigoth and village idiot”, The Spooks aren’t shy at poking fun at the stereotypical man in comical fashion.

Formed by Melbourne native Stephen Tabner in Sydney back in 2001, they’ve been highly praised as potentially redefining the world of male singing.

Hailed as “sexy, powerful, impossibly gentle and sad but unmistakably male” their repertoire ranges from Georgian drinking songs to whisper perfect ballads.

Long-time Spooks fans know how well the group are able to recreate classic songs by the likes of Earth, Wind and Fire and Abba in humorous fashion.

Tabner said: “We love playing the UK. This time around audiences will witness Spookies that are bigger, blacker, deeper and more hairy than ever before.

“These fellows are guaranteed to leave small children thrall struck, women making noises they’ve never made before and real estate salesmen vaguely aware that somewhere, there’s a whole world they’ve never experienced.”

Whilst playing fan favourites, The Spookies will also be performing songs from their latest Georgian themed record, Warm.

Tickets are on sale now at liverpoolphil.com/whats-on/spooky beginning at just £18.50.
