St. Luke’s ‘Bombed Out’ Church gardens are set to reopen to the public after being closed for almost two years.
The Bombed Out Church closed its gardens in September 2015 to undergo extensive repairs and now they’re ready to invite the public back with a series of events to celebrate.
After a public consultation and bidding process, Liverpool City Council approved Bombed Out Church Ltd’s bid to run the Grade II listed church for the next 30 years.
Curator and Artistic Director Ambrose Reynolds said about reopening the gardens: “we’re delighted to reopen the church to the public once again, a chance to start thanking all of the people who have backed us through this process”
On Saturday June 17, The Stratford Festival Orchestra and Choir will be performing songs from The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album.
The event will be ticketed with early bird prices set at £10 and general sale then costing £15. All proceeds raised will go towards funding the church.
While on Sunday, organisers are inviting people for free to relax in the gardens and enjoy the entertainment with refreshments and food provided by local firm Relish.
The church’s interior is still undergoing refurbishment and is set to reopen mid-July.
St. Luke’s will continue to hold exhibitions, theatre and classical films with plans to host weddings, parties and festivals in the near-future.
Tickets for the opening event on Saturday 17th June are available on Eventbrite – https://bocopening.eventbrite.co.uk
