Dynamo Kiev have revealed why Everton failed in their efforts to land Andriy Yarmolenko.
Ronald Koeman revived the Blues’ interest in the Ukraine playmaker just 12 months after his predecessor Roberto Martinez had been unsuccessful.
But it has emerged that Yarmolenko became a fresh target after Everton endured a frustrating deadline day in the transfer market.
Sunderland defender Lamine Kone and Southampton full-back Cuco Martina both failed to secured moves to Goodison Park while Moussa Sissoko opted to join Tottenham.
And Kiev president Ihor Surkis has claimed that Everton officials’ attempt to land Yarmolenko after missing out on France midfielder Sissoko.
He said: “Everton submitted a bid for Yarmolenko one hour and 15 minutes prior to the deadline.
“I was satisfied with the transfer price but we did not have time to even draw up a contract.
“I was satisfied with the offer as long as Andriy was. Transfer bids cannot be submitted that late.”
